What are the consequences if someone has my Social Security number?

Did you not see the report in the news about that poor woman who had had her social security number stolen over 200 times? It was apparently sold on the black market ... and now she's wanted by the cops in Texas ... and the IRS are after her for over 15,000 dollar ... so have fun! :)

Well, He could get a loan in your name over the net. He could get a credit card in your name over the net. He could get a new lap top in your name over the net. See?

People can use an SSN to get credit cards and things like that. They can charge and not pay, then it goes on your credit. It's nearly impossible to correct since your SSN is associated with it.

youc an't collect social security and also your SSN is as valuable as a passport when you are over seas if you lose it you will lose anyhope of doing anything.

u should check ur credit report twice a year to see if there are unknown open accounts. it will show in 6 months so u should check twice a year. but if they use ur ssn then u can appeal the decision and u will be ok again

You are not obligated to have an SSN. In fact, you may very well live your whole life without paying taxes if you don't have one. However, you will also never receive Social Security retirement or medical benefits. But since Social Security will be used up by 2025, you're not really losing much.
