Why is the term '5-0' used to refer to the police?

Hawaii Five-O was a show about the vice squad in Honolulu. The slang term "5-0" was used by CB'ers in the 1970's, and the slang stuck into current day usage.

It's from an old TV show, 'Hawaii 5-0'. 5-0 was a Hawaiin state police task force, that policed 5 islands.

ford has cars userd by and made for the police dept's the motors used in them are 5.0 liters. just like the mustang. it is just another slang word for police..... po.po....smokey......spinner...... whirlie bird......donut head.......cop.... pig... and so on.
