Check out the differences in distribution. At this point in the war the North had an extensive railway system created, that allowed them to get men, supplies, and equipment to places faster than ever before. The south did have some railroads, but most were just made for the situation, not planned and set up like the North. Also another difference between the two area's was economic advancements. The North was trained on advancing their industries through technology, the South, wanted to rely on their main source of labor, which often was african based.

The government was trying to make everyone equal. So they passed a law saying everyone including slave are allowed to vote. They would be able to have land as well. But the south started passing their own laws which did not allow the slaves to vote. The North thought it to be unfair so they try to have the government to pass the law so there won't be anymore slavery. The South depended on the Slaves. So the north and the south began to fight over there different view on things.
