There is a Black disease more common in sheep, but goats and cattle can get it too...that is usually associated with a liver fluke infestation.. . Blackleg is an often fatal bacterial disease that affects goats of any age.. . The disease usually causes lameness due to localised inflammation of muscle with heat, swelling and gas formation (gas gangrene). This is followed by a generalised toxaemia or poisoning of the animal causing rapid death
