it is strange, kind of like if someone asks if you want something and you say no thanks, thank you for asking, isn't the "Thank you for asking" cover in the Thanks! you say No to the question, and thanks, but yet most feel they need to elaberate on the thanks. the English language has a lot of weird word things.

Welcome means, essentially, that the speaker is glad about what happened. "Come in, you're welcome," means come in, I'm glad you are here. "You're welcome," in reply to "Thank you," means "I was glad to do the thing that you are thanking me for.". . And yes, you're welcome. ;-)
