Why does my cat sometimes not use the litter box even though it's always clean?

There are various reasons as to why the cat wont use the box. It could be pissed about something, he could have a UTI, he could be stressed, he might not like the kitty litter used, he might not like the location of the kitty litter box. So...lots of reasons. I'd take him to vets office just to rule out any medical conditions first.

Make sure the litter box is far away from the place where your cat eats and sleeps. Also, put the litter box somewhere where the cat is undisturbed. Use praise and treats when you see your cat using the litter box. Worked for my cat.

One of my old cats had that issue. I think it has to do with being territorial. If you have more than one cat, it might be trying to cover up the other's scent with his/her own. If it's a single cat, it can be territorial or something else... so you may want to have them checked out by the vet and make sure it's not because they're sick and can't make it.
