Why do mother-in-laws often seem to cause conflict between a couple?

It is just an issue of wanting to be most important in the persons life, not wanting to be replaced, once you both can get over the issue of competition, you may be surprised that you will become friends...you do have a great thing in common....

Don't let her cause fights between you two. She may be saying things that upset you, but you and your husband are the ones acting on it, and fighting about it. Why are you allowing it to happen? . You know that she is going to say things that will start problems, so be prepared for it, so that you are able to blow it off.

i don't think this is true in all cases but i believe it happens because the mother wants her child to have the best and if she sees what she believes to be flaws in her child's partner she will bring them up and it may cause conflict.
