Best answer
Prior to the finding of the Rosetta stone, no one could read hiroglyphics. But the Rosetta stone said the same thing in 3 languages, including Greek which was known, allong scientists to translate the hiroglyphics successfully.

Because it contains a word-for-word translation in Greek. With the stone, it became possible to translate hieroglyphs.

Rosetta stone is a stone tablet found in 1799 near Rashid in Egypt that contained the same text repeated in Egyptian hieroglyphics, Egyptian demotic script, and Greek, thereby supplying the key to deciphering hieroglyphics
