What is the significance of Black History Month?

Whats the purpose of presidents day, christmas, esaster, and columbus day, ect? These days are set aside to celebrate something just as black history mounth is set aside as an attempt to celebrate contributations made by the black community that are so often looked over.

because blacks wernt treated right and they invented most stuff here today like traffic lights. They had to invent stuff to get the pace of their jobs going faster when they were slaves.
