He is making his nest. He is making his spot on the bed comfy for him. My cat does it too!

I was told that is a kind of "remember of his mother" he used to do that since he was born with his mother and puppy-brothers, and that remains during all his life. My mother cat do the same, and I remember when I bought that cat, I saw him doing that with his mother tummy.

It's hard for dogs to overcome behaviours that millions of years of evolution have put in place. I think you're talking the right attitude, be charmed by it. Dogs may be a bit dim, but they're cute as hell. . . Unlike cats. Oooooh, don't get me started on cats.

It is an innate behavior that goes back to sleeping on the hard ground. If you dig...then the dirt will be loose and you will have softer bed to sleep on.

all dogs do it - most animals that "nest down" do it. My dog does it until she gets the hump of blankets in the right spot.
