honestly i dont think u completely understand irony there is a lot of forms of irony and i agree that some of alanis morisettes lyrics are wrong but some of completely right and she is canadian how are u going to write americans???instead of canadians we as americans understand irony very well!

People are not learning fundamental elements of creative writing in English classes. You are correct that Alanis isn't really giving us examples of irony as much as bad luck (though the plane crash victim does utter an ironic phrase). The short stories of O. Henry are fairly good examples of irony (e.g. the man using all of his money to buy an expensive brush for his wife's luxurious hair, while she sells her hair to a wig maker so they would have money).

Haha, I think you should be a singer yourself. As an american, and growing up with my mom the mostly pure english-woman, I've learned to appreciate sarcasm. I see that people seem to have a harder time at understanding or catching sarcasm than they do with truely appreciating irony- because everyone loves a bitter bit of irony. . I don't put a lot of stock in Alanis though, 'specially since she's Canadian, ha!
