even trade school is a waste of time really, because of state mandated apprenticeship programs (i.e., apprentice, journeyman, master) that require a certain amount of time spent under someone with a higher license. You need NO experience/training get an apprenticeship license.

Go to an electrician's union and ask about an apprenticeship. you would be an apprentice for a few years and then become an electrician. there are hundreds of trade schools to help you in that as well.

In order to become an electrician in my area, a person enrolls in technical school and follows a set progression of classes and then becomes an apprentice, working with experienced electricians in order to learn in the field.. But the first step is enrolling in technical college.. My dad was an electrician. Just answering this question made me smile, remembering him coming home at the end of a workday.. Good luck to you.

Tech school. If you wanted to become some other type of engineer, check out the engineering programs at four year universities.
