Do you mean that you applied with the social department? right. If you did, sometimes it takes more that 1 to 3 months and you get notify by letter. This is in California

They will notify you buy a letter and set up a hearing before a judge, then he/she will make that decision, it takes a couple of weeks for them to decide...the judge will ask you questions about your health so be sure to have all your doctor's medical reports with you...good luck, you may need to hire a lawyer, if you get it they get a percentage of your back pay...

You will get a letter in the mail. Most times you won't get it the first time. After you get your letter, look in the phonebook for a lawyer that does it. They don't charge until you win.
