Anorexia (deriving from the Greek όρεξη (orexe) = appetite) is the decreased sensation of appetite. While the term in non-scientific publications is often used interchangably with one of its subtypes, anorexia nervosa, there are many possible causes for a decreased appetite, some of which may be harmless while others pose significant risk for the person.

Anorexia is a condition during which the victim refuses to eat. It could be caused by depression among other psychosomatic reasons.. . Often, anorectic people (mostly women) feel "obese" and "unattractive", even shortly before they die of starvation. The skin and bones reflection they have on the mirror, they actually perceive as overweight.. . Anorexia can lead to death, and professional help should be sought at first symptoms. Family and friends should also step in, because the victims often deny they have a problem.
