A cat breaths through it's nose because it has memory censers there and they can remember everything through smell. My own cat should have been named Mr. Sniffer cause he goes around sniffing everything he sees that is new to him. A cat can return home from far away because of there keen sense of smell and memory.I once had a cat return home from my sisters house over three miles away even after he was driven there. Hope this answers your question.

I'm not sure about cats, but horses have the physical INability to breath through their mouths... It's not impossible that it's the same for cats. Though cats are predators and horses prey... Dogs can obviously breath throught the mouth. But maybe cats are like horses in that sense, that's the best I can think of...

Go here, theres plenty of info on cats:. . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cats. . I have a cat and I think that it's just natural for cats to breathe through their noses because, like humans, they only breathe through their mouthes when excited or are excercising to help with air circulation. My cat only does it when she is pissed off and hisses at me so obviously hissing is breathing through the mouth.

Cats can breathe through their mouths but usually only do so when they are "tasting the air around them". They have twice as many taste buds as humans and they use their mouths as a filter.

They pant when excessively hot but their body temp is approx 101 and so that would mean they are very uncomfortable at that point. They do not like it for that reason!?
