I think they sit in boxes because they can, they fit, feel safe and can observe the world from there. I have cats playing in boxes right now, and they are hunting each other.

lol I honestly don't know, but my cat loves to climb into any new box or cubby hole in the house. They are just silly/quirky little creatures....: ). . Don't know what I'd do without my two cats.
