because it uncompresses the avi first then converts it then compresses it again then burns it. use cucusoft it will take 80 mins to convert it then 20 mins to burn it (dvd size 4 gb) ,using win xp with a 1.8ghtz cpu with 1 gb ddr1 memory

good for you you just have to deal with those 3 hours. with ulead it took me 9 hours for a 4.7GB file. i think it has to do with the conversion. mine started with an .avi file and converted to a dvd movie.

If you are talking about burning an avi or mpg file onto disc as a dvd image (ie so that it can be played on a dvd player) then of course it will take so long, especially if your pc's a couple years old.. . Nero has to convert the file to the correct DVD format (which is what takes the time) THEN burn to the disc, which itself should take no more than 10 minutes (unless you have an old, slow DVD burner).. . It all comes down to how fast each component is. If you have a slow CPU and not so much ram, then it'll take ages to connvert the file. If you have a slow DVD burner, then it'll take longer to burn.

wow, that seems very long for burning a DVD. Is your DVD burner pretty old? it shouldn't take that long. How do regular files transfer to a DVD , or regular CD.....if those also take long, then it's your Drive.....don't know what though.

That sounds about right for a medium spec machine.. . Remember its not just burning the data onto the disc. If you're starting with a avi or mpeg file Nero is first transcoding to dvd format. . . Depending on the spec of your machine this can take a while.. I have an old P2 and this can take up to 10 hours!. . Nero shows the progress as it's working. If you look it actually only takes around 5 to 10 mins to do the actual burning to disk
