the spelling. they're just the same a notebook coz you can close and hold it like a notebook and a laptop coz you can put it on your lap but basically it's just one and the same

There is no real difference, some people refer to the newer thinner ones as notebooks.

laptop is the older name for a "portable" computer. Notebook is the current name.
