What is the best method to clean a 5-gallon plastic water bottle?

No not at all, in other countries they use a drop or two of bleach in there drinking water to sterilize it. Also if you let it sit for a day or two after you bleach it, the bleach will evaporate.. . another option is white vinegar, safe and just as effective.

use bleach and water mix. then rinse. it will not harm you and will kill bacteria.

Use bleach as directed. Perfectly safe when diluted. Vinegar will not adequately disinfect. Soap leaves a residue, which might give a bad taste to the water.

I wouldn't use bleach.. I would use dishsoap and warm water.. Shake it up a couple times and rince really good untill al the soap is out.

bleach actually can be safe to drink if its diluted properly one half a cap ful per gallon i believe. Anyway. If you use the bleach just rinse it out completely with water after.

use 2 tablespoons of bleach and fill with water, let sit over night. The next morning rinse with water and baking soda, repeat. use about a tablespoon per gallon of water. bleach is not dangerous in small amounts
