Make the baths really quick. Make sure the water is a little cooler than what you use, or it dries their skin out. Put some toys in the water. Bring treats in the bath to make him know it's OK.

My westie hates a bath, but lets me give him a shower. I close the bathroom door to confine him. After I do that, he goes and hides behind the shower curtain. He thinks I can't see. him. All you see are those dark eyes and black nose peeking from underneath the curtain.. Just to make things easier, I do keep everything I am going to use right there. Towel, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, etc.. . Don't forget to reward your pet! Even keep some treats in the bathroom with you.. .

How do you convince a Mex that taking a bath is good? They are like dogs, you can't convince them.

Very simple. Just get in the shower with him.

Your dog is probably sensing your anxiety, apprehension and concern that he is going to behave badly. Try to be really calm BEFORE you start to give him a bath and start the treat process early - call him in and out of the tub even when you don't plan to give him a bath. Give him a treat every time he does what you want. Next call him in and out of the bath while the water is running - give him a treat when he stays calmly in the tub with the water running. Once that is down you do treats when you pour water over him and then give him a really good scrubbing with BABY SHAMPOO in case it gets in his eyes. After two or three times of each step, start rewarding him more with scratches behind the ear instead of treats. Once you have washed him a few times with baby shampoo you can switch to dog shampoo, but actually the baby stuff is better for their skin (unless there is a flea problem you are trying to sort out).

doing this will be hard. but try bringing along some of his favorite toys (waterproof) That will show him that bathtime is fun. also try some cookies or treats. reward him when he acts calm. you can also try asking your groomer what techniques he or she uses while grooming.

This may sound weird, but I put on my bathing suit and get in the bath with my puppy. It makes her feel a lot more comfortable because I am in the water too and not trying to drown her like she thinks i am.
