How do babies breathe while in a woman's uterus, and do they need air?

hemoglobin carries oxygen and crosses the placenta from mother to child. they don't actually breathe until they are born, until that time their oxygen comes from their mothers.

they get oxygen from the mother through the umbilical cord cuz their lungs r already filled with the fluid. so when they r born all the fluid comes out of them so they can take their first acctual breath

no for some reason they dont.they take their first breath when they come out of the womb.good question though.

Babies at that point DO NOT know what air is in their lungs.. Their first gasp of air is when they are born. Before that they are surviving and growing on liquid.
