How can I tell if a dog is sad because someone is missing

If a dog misses someone they love they show it in many ways, like search for the person everywhere there is even a slight scent of them, they sit, stand or lay by the door and cry, moan or pout and sometime they may even destroy things that belong to that person or the person who is with them all the time.. It may be a simple case, in this matter, that if you play with him more on the weekends than your girlfriend does the rest of the week, that he is just bored and needs more physical activity, especially when you are not around.

I agree with Rockinpacker, although I will add my 2 cents for what it's worth. lol. First of all I hope you are not trying to win him over so he will want to be with you if (Gosh fobid) you and your gf break up. This happens quite frequently and can cause alot of problems... Won't get into the analytical stuff for now. lol. What I would do is have your gf put the phone to the dog's ear and let you talk to him just as you always do. See if that perks him up.. When my Mother was alive, she had a pom that I swear could understand every word she said to her. Anyway, everytime I would call Mother to let her know I was coming for a visit she would tell "Georgia" her Pom that Aunt Linda Gail was coming down for a visit. Georgia got so excited that Mother would have to actually put her on the phone so she could hear my voice..... Oh wow, I sure do miss those days......

This is a tough question to answer without knowing the dog. My dog has missed my husband if he's out of town for awhile. It is possible for a dog to miss somebody, but dogs have their own personalities and emotions too. My dog sometimes just wants to be left alone. She gets in good moods and down moods just like people do. What kind of dog is it? Some dogs don't follow commands every time you tell them to do something. They have minds of their own. :-)

dogs (like people) can love more than one being. he sounds like he is having great fun with you but his momma will always be his momma. sounds like he would like you both to live together!!(heaven). remember this is not a compition, would you do that to a child?

I think you hit it on the nose seperation anxiety,. bring over a towel or something with your scent on it and see if that helps.

Try not to play with him that much, because he will start to like u more and if u want that u can play with him, and if u don't don't play with him. Contact ur friend on how he is doing and then u will get an idea. ~~
