Best answer
Putting ones elbows on the table demonstrates low class and self disrespect. However if you wish to be rude and selfish go for it.

how does putting your elbows on the table give you freedom of expression or freedom of speech? It looks sloppy and you are portraying to the host that you are bored. And you could end up with your elbow in your soup.

In the world of Manners, it's not polite to be seated at the table with your elbows on the table. Just like it's not polite to chew with your mouth open. It's just one of the many rules in the etiquette book.
