Why do people in today's world seem to pay less attention to spelling and grammar?

It's because the modern society that has been created focuses on the speed of production. With computers, television, cars, etc, who cares about details. The goal is to get as much out as fast as possible while still creating some sense of coherency. Unless someone is writing a paper for school, most people don't care about their grammar as long as people understand.

I, too, have noticed improper grammar used on the internet and feel it's due to laziness or just plain ignorance. Many people cannot spell but can learn if they just take the time to do it.

Because computers, with all the good they've done, do everything for us. They check our spelling, grammar, even do our math. . . That doesn't mean it's right. People should know how to read, write and do math on their own. Besides, what if the power fails--people would HAVE to know how to do everything manually.

It's because people in our country are actually unevolving. With all the welfare and homeless housing, the stupid people are living long enough to reproduce. And they usually reproduce more than intelligent folk because they are too stupid to use birth control, or they can't afford it. For example those people who live in a trailer park with eight kids when they can't even afford one. You would think that they would learn their lesson after the third or fourth kid, but no. Darwin's law is no longer in effect for the human species in this part of the world. Survival for all is what we strive for, is this going to kill our species?

We all make mistakes, even when we know the correct spelling or grammar. However, some of the numerous and severe mistakes bely a serious problem of society. Many, many teachers are very intelligent, dedicated people. However, with all due respect to most of them, there are some teachers who really don't speak or write much better. The real crime is that when these teachers try and teach children just learning the basics. . . On the bright side, even if you think you're only average or a bit above on your English mechanical skills, you'll be miles above the pack! ;-)

I can type a lot faster than i can speak, and even if i forget to capitalize something, or add a letter, or spell something wrong it doesnt mean im more or less intelligent than someone who uses correct grammar. . . Spelling is all about memory, not about intelligence. if someone that had good grammar was really more intelligent, they would have to ask this question.. . I dont use bad grammar to upset people like you, or because im unintelligent. I use bad grammar because im typing fast and its faster not to. As long as you understand me, and I understand you, then isnt everything okay?
