Because people want certainty and easy answers. The universe doesn't work like that. Change is the norm and almost all correct answers come only with considerable research and thought.

If "historical determinism" refers to mega political events (end of Communism, rise of China and India, etc.), then I think it's okay for people to accept it.. . I guess wisdom is knowing accurately what you can change and what you cannot change -- and to spend all your time on what you CAN change.. . I say "wisdom" but actually, maybe it's courage that we need. Indeed, the only thing we can truly change is ourselves.. . Yet, most people can't and won't.. . Perhaps a good question to ask is, "Why is blind acceptance of biographical determinism almost the universal norm?". . History has proven that once a person can change himself (or his mind), he succeeds in changing the course of history. . . Examples: De Klerk, who changed his mind and supported Mandela to end apartheid in Africa. Same with Gorbachev. They both won the Nobel prize for peace.

Since it is the belief/theory that all action is caused entirely by preceding/past events, it stands to reason that mankind as a whole will repeat various scenarios again and again until we truly learn that we are the authors of our future...not the past.

The issue behind history is that only one side of the story is taught. I recently conversated with an Armenian friend I have and he taught me several things about World War II that I never learned in my AP History class. The blind acceptance of history stems from believing stories told from a person of authority.
