Payoff your hot checks.. Some banks will allow you a savings account, but few will give you checking until you have paid off all old checks and have not had a bounce for 3 to 6 months.

I work in a bank. So i can say the only way to know if you can actually get approved for an account is to go the the bank of your choice and try and open an account. If you have NSF's from another bank that have been turned over to collection agencies then you may not be able to get an account.

You can get a savings account. Or there is US banks who lets you open a checking account when you are in check systems.
