Who says you have to? Just don't spoil it for the children. They seem to have so little to believe in these days,

You don't have to. Think for yourself ! Use your brain ! Form your own opinions ! Nothing wrong with independent thinking

There's nothing to believe or not believe in. Historically, Santa Claus is/was a real person. Whether you choose to believe in Santa Claus is something you'll have to decide on your own. According to Wikipedia: "Santa Claus is a variation of a Dutch folk tale based on the historical figure Saint Nicholas, a bishop from Turkey (then known as Myra), who gave presents to the poor. His charity became legend when a man lost his fortune and found himself incapable of supporting his three daughters, who would not be able to find husbands as they lacked dowries. This man was going to give them over to a life of prostitution; however, St. Nicholas provided them with gold and cookies, enabling them to retain their virginal virtues and marry." So, there really was a Saint Nicholas (whom we call Santa Claus now) and he really did give gifts. So like I said in the beginning, you can't choose to believe he wasn't a real figure in history when he was. Though you can choose to decide if he has any meaning to you today.

Santa is a load of crap. You don't have to celebrate every holiday because everyone else is. I mean, if you follow the crowds through Thanksgiving and Christmas, you wind up starting the year FAT and BROKE. Now who wants that?

Because Santa has nothing to do with Christmas! Santa is a mythical figure associated with the pagan holiday Christamas not the one that millions of people died for until the missionaires realized that they could kill as many of the people as they wanted and the masses would still cerebrate. So they hd the pope declare it a religious holiday thus taking away the tant of pagenism . . So, love Santa all you like he is not a part of the pagen-christan holiday Christmas

Nobody seriously believes in Santa Claus except small children. It is an old fairy tale type of myth that everyone recognizes as just that long before they are adult. People may speak of Santa Claus as if he exists, but that is nothing more than a light-hearted manner of speech as part of the joy and celebration of the holiday.
