To me, common sense is an accumulation of life experience that is shared and is common in thinking adults. I.e., violence always begets more violence or you reap what you sow... Common sense always entails a certain amount of truisms. If you go out in the freezing cold without winter gear, common sense will tell you that you'll catch a cold. It's accumulated knowledge and experience and the same repeated cause and effect results.

philosophical thinking is almost never associated with common sense.

The term common sense actually means what people in common would agree on.... or what the majority would think is the right answer. This translated into people "expecting" a certain answer the majority of the time for a specific question.... being an answer of "common sense". If I ask you how many hours there are in a day, 24 would be the common sense answer! If you didn't know that, people would say you lack "common sense". If I asked you the exact time that a human being first walked on the earth... that would be a question that "common sense" could not be agreed on.

Common sense is the concept that most people have general sensibilities that allow them to determine proper actions in a situation. Of course, sense many act without "common sense," it apparently is not all that common. Also, reasoning that takes a "common sense" approach can be wrong, because it may oversimplify an issue. Communism is a good example. It is structured on common sense of people in society supporting one another and working toward the common good, the way we all should be. But government is all about dealing with the human element, and this "Common sense" ignores this fact. It is blind to both system abusers and the inbuilt desire of a man to succeed and better himself. This is the very power of capitalism. When dealing with a complicated issue, common sense can be wrong. But ultimately, common sense means what is generally accepted as reasonable.
