What is the process for preparing Beef Short Ribs?

You don't need to boil them. They are good braised in a brown sauce. Prepare a seasoned flour mixture with salt, pepper and garlic and coat the ribs and brown in a frying pan...olive oil or canola oil is best for this. When browned place in a baking dish and cover with a brown gravy cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours and check for tenderness.

I boil them first ONLY if I am going to BBQ/GRILL them.. . I take my chops/ribs and remove all extra fat, put them in the crock pot with BBQ sauce and simmer all day on low.

DO NOT BOIL !! Coat them with flour salt and pepper and sear them in a hot frying pan. Place them in a roasting pan along with some chopped carrots, celery and onions, just barley cover with water. cover with foil and place in a 300 degree oven for around two hours. Check for tenderness. If tender enough carefully remove ribs and put in a pan to keep warm. Place cooking liquid in a pan and reduce by 1/2. Strain out veggies, thicken sauce with a roux. Pour sauce over ribs and enjoy! This is a time consuming recipe but its the labor of love that makes food taste so good.

Here is one for braised short ribs. In a large skillet or dutch oven brown shor ribs on all side. Take them out and set aside. Add olive oil,any veg. oil well do, add 1 large onion sliced thin, 1 cup celery and 1 cup carrots. Add short ribs and 1 29oz of tomato's, and 2cups beef stock or broth. cover and cook till ribs are tender.. This is real good served with roasted garlic mashed potato's

Yes... you may boil them ... i have done this in 25% vinegar (this help them become super tender and puts the flavor in them that you'll love for ever !!).... but... you may also bake them in a glass dish with a cover over them to help keep in the juices. I love to use CREOLE seasoning from Kroger to help spice it up a little. Then you can add your sauce to them about 15 minutes before removing from the oven. Have fun.. I love to cook.
