Why do male dogs raise their legs when they urinate?

To keep from peeing on his front feet. Kinda like you point your pecker at the toilet so as not to pee on your feet.. . Oh and also, I've seen a female dog pee on my dad's truck tire. She leaned forward and balanced on her front feet and peed all over the tire.

the higher they pee on an object the bigger he is going to seem to the next dog that comes along.
